Ullapool Day 4



OUGS North West Branch Ullapool Trip May 2002

THURSDAY 9th
Drive to Scourie Bay. Walk to Poll Earna and back, igneous and metamorphic phenomena. Lunch in Scourie. Drive to Tarbet. Traverse northwards to examine well-exposed Lewisian rocks, structures and textures.

This ultra-basic (Pyroxinite) exposure in a field near Scourie may represent a layered gabbro from a piece of the Lewisian ocean floor.

On our way to see the Scourie dyke we met the West Scotland OUGS trip coming back.
The Other Group
This section of Scourie dyke at Poll Earna, a late intrusion innto the Lewisian complex (~2200-2400 Ma ), shows signs of Laxfordian deformation (~1800-2000 Ma ).
